The use of Elixir continues to grow worldwide among many of the world's largest companies. Here, I bring you another five companies based in the US who work with Elixir on a daily basis
1. Discord - https://www.discord.com
Discord is a fairly new free voice and text chat platform which is mainly used by the gaming community. Supporting text, video, image and audio communication between users it can allow up to 300,000 users to be in the same call.
Thanks to Elixir, they are able to handle over 5 million concurrent users and millions of events per second!
2. Bleacher Report - https://www.bleacherreport.com
The Bleacher Report is the 2nd largest sports website in the world, meaning it has approx 1.5 Billion page visits every month. The code which this was originally built on (Ruby on Rails) wasn't strong enough for them to achieve their goals, which led to engineers and executives searching for new, more flexible solutions that would be able to process the growing traffic. Switching to Elixir helped them to improve the performance of the service and made it more scalable and prepared for further development.
3. Postmates - https://www.postmates.com
Postmates is an American logistics company who operate food delivery services. They use Elixir in their internal projects such as portal tools and inventory systems.
There are plans to widen the usage of Elixir amongst their system, mainly for sourcing a Thumbor Library.
4. Toyota Connected - https://www.toyotaconnected.com
In the early 2000s, Toyota launched a mobility service platform which connects car to Traffic information in real time. Due to a large number of vehicles creating concurrent traffic by regularly sending events to the cloud, Elixir was an obvious choice.
Elixir is used within their back end development system which makes up the MSRF and provides the API for mobile and web apps as well as handling geoprocessing
It has been stated that there are future plans to design with Elixir and Erlang/OTP for a platform that will empower mobility at a global scale for many years to come.
5. Slack - https://www.slack.com
Slack is a workplace communication tool for messaging, video chats and file sharing among other programs.
Elixir is predominantly used to build their media server for p2p and group calls, owing to it's outstanding concurrency and ease.
